The Nda’nokitaage’ogaming Employment Resource Centre aims to deliver comprehensive services to members of Curve Lake First Nation, whether they reside on or off the reserve, as well as to other community residents. The Employment Resource Centre empowers individuals in the community with programs that offer a range of support services; including assistance with job searches, resume and interview preparations, skills development, and employment counseling. The Employment and Training Manager, along with the Employment Officer, are a strong team where we strive to transform lives through education & training for improved employability and career growth.
Additionally, the Employment Resource Centre provides various training opportunities for individuals seeking employment or aiming to enhance their current career prospects. We offer training programs that equip people with life-changing skills, gain confidence and self-sufficiency through personal and professional growth. These training opportunities include certifications such as Working at Heights, Food Handlers, First Aid/CPR, Traffic Control, WHMIS, and many more. The Employment Department strives to offer meaningful training programs that align with the needs of the community and its members to build a stronger community.
The Employment Department also provides a Summer Student Program which we are committed to providing meaningful full-time summer employment to our First Nation Youth in our community. Students will be from Secondary and Post-Secondary institutions and returning to school in the fall. Students are provided with capacity building within our First Nations Services and Programs offered to our membership. Student positions can be offered in the Health & Family Services, Cultural, Education, Administration, Early Learning, Public Works, Lands and the Economic Development Department under direct supervision. The Curve Lake First Nation provides a weeklong of training which can range from First Aid/CPR Training, WHIMIS, to Into to OHSA, Mental Health and Culture Awareness training. Included with that is also Human Resources, post-secondary preparedness in addition to learned job skills and training from their positions. This program enables the next generation to gain valuable work experience while building and refining essential employment skills.
On top of these services, we also assistance individuals who are seeking funding supports with some of the programs offered through Kagita Mikam for the following (certain eligibility criteria may apply): purchase of training, self-employment assistance, job creation, targeted wage subsidy, mobility assistance, etc. Our team works with the individual on their application to ensure they are utilizing the right best program to access funds for their post-secondary education, training or employment needs.
